I have two of the most ANNOYING sound problems:

1) A weird ripple/skipping effect is plaguing my PC every time I play mp3s on WinAmp! It happened right after I changed the Full Duplex setting under Sounds. I changed it back but the damage is done it seems. Short songs play the worst while longer running audio like old time radio shows are hardly affected.

2) Another PC I have refuses to recognize the Creative SoundBlaster PCI card. There are no error messages anywhere to be found, only that when I check under Sounds in W2K Ctrl Panel, the Audio tab shows the Sound card grayed out. I can still hear little beeps the PC emits every now and then but I can't play music!!

I don't know how much longer I can go w/o hearing
Jon Anderson's lovely voice!
:p

Don't know if this will help you but if you go to Windows Volume Control, go to Advanced Controls > if 3d Effect is enabled disable it. I had to do that with my sound card.

Hope it works for ya.

1. Sounds like an IRQ prob. Need to check if your sound card shares interrupt request with another, if so, change it.

2. Do you have onboard sound on your motherboard? If so, you need to check your BIOS, perhaps it's set to ENABLE. You need to change this to DISABLE.

Not sure if this will fix your probs, but it's something to check.
