I am considering either an IBM 14.4 GB 7200rpm or a Quantum 13.6 GB KA 7200 rpm.
Which would you choose and why? The Quantum is only $10 cheaper.

Thanks

Why choose IBM ?

Because they are the best.
Check the Gxp Series, specially the ones with 2Mb cache, UDMA66 and 7200rpm.

They are fast

From what I've seen in previous posts here, Western Digital is the same as IBM, just cheaper.

I've never had a problem with Maxtor, but I've never tried seriously to overclock either.

In any case, go for 7200 rpm & ata-66.

IBM-Better performance, lower failure rate, larger drive. 10 bucks is pretty cheap for 800 megs.

Although if you really want a kick-*** hdd...

Check out www.surplusdirect.com. When the page comes up click on the auction button on the lower left. Egghead software sell off their excess equipment here and they usually have some good deals on hard drives. They are selling quantum fireball 18.2GB ATA 66 hard drives tonight. Check it out!

Go with the IBM, I have a 10.1 gig 7200rpm Deskstar. Best Harddrive I've seen/performance clearly outperforms the Western Digitals (I've installed enough to see the difference).
