Can anyone tell me how to get into the bios to change the video option to PCI instead of the on-board AGP? I am trying to get rid of the 4MB rage chip and use a 32MB ATI card. F-10 does not get me there. Thank you in advance.

What model Compaq is it?

Compaq's use F10, not F12.
IBM's use F1.
Abit, Asus, FIC, Gigabyte use Delete key.

This computer is a K-6 processor, Presario model. F-10 gets me in to some options but very limited. I am thinking that changing or deleting the on-board video is not option with this board.

Some mother boards with built in video. Will turn them selfs off when the bios auto detects another card installed.

You are right Philip. This one won't seem to do that though. After installion, the PC stops at boot up and now I manually have to boot with F1 or select F10 for set up. Set up will not give me any video options except for monchrome disable.

It's remotely possible that there is a jumper on the motherboard to disable the on-board video if there's no option in the BIOS. However, without knowing the exact model # there's not much more I can really say.

You tried disabling your onboard video from windows properties?
I know its not the best way but I remember my old 166 NEC PC had no other way disabling the 2Mb videocard on board except under windows properties. It did however work and I had no conflicts whatsoever...

Almost forgot... old HP had a jumper on motherboard - look for two position jumper with words like video or agp(?)

Hi gsbfpl,

As a user of a Deskpro P1 233 with a matrox PCI 4mg video card, the bios doesn't seem to allow switching, both the onboard video and the Matrox are shown in Windows. Disable one in Windows and should be OK

Other point check for updates on Compaq site

Thanks to all for your replies. Tumbler, your right, I see no switching for the MB. It still causes a conflict with start up so this gives me a new reason to update the barebones. I am going with new MB with separate PCI/AGP slots. :)
