Here are two of mine:

I go to college and hence live in a dorm...so the first week my friend calls me and can't seem to get her internet working. So I go over to her room and I am messing with all the settings and they seem to be right. I asked her if the ethernet cable was plugged into the wall she said yes. So after about 20 minutes I finally decided to check the outlet. Sure enough, she had the ethernet cord jammed into the phone jack. Moral of the story: Always check the plugs first.

Middle of the year a friend calls and can't get her printer to print correctly. So I headed over to investigate the problem. I checked all the cords, no problem there. I tried printing something and I noticed that the intake was only working on one side. This is an old HP inkjet, in case you were wondering. So I took the cover off and was looking around....she had a tortia chip jammed between the intake week and the paper shoot. That was fun to dig out! Moral of the story: Tortia Chips are not viable printing material.

Post some of your funniest stories!

My most memorable story as a tech support person was talking to a girl we’ll call Cindy. I picked up the phone with my usual friendly greeting. Cindy proceeded to chew me a new one for having held on the phone for twenty minutes. I mean she went on and on and on and on…..When she finally took a breath, I jumped in and asked how I could help her. She said: “Wait a minute, I’m not done with you!” I said Ok Cindy, if it’ll make you feel better to yell at me some more, here are the ground rules:

1. No profanity or I’ll hang up the phone
2. No references to my mother or I’ll hang up the phone
3. If you stop and think about it for a few seconds, we’ve been talking for ten minutes and you haven’t even said what your problem is. Chances are, we could be done by now and you could be back running this business of your that’s so important…

But, I said, if it’ll make you feel better, go right ahead and yell at me even though I’m just a hard working person like yourself trying to earn a living.

Well, she saw the light of day and it only took us 4 minutes to solve her problem. Has much as I wanted to, I didn’t mention to her that she wouldn’t have had to call in the first place if she had RTFM.

I was working as the network administrator of my school's lab a few years back. One of the teachers came to me, telling me that his mouse wasn't working. I went back to his computer, and he was holding the mouse up to the screen, wiggling it around in the air, waving it around, and said, "See? It doesn't work."

(sigh)...

This is something like I would do http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

My friend was quite good with computers.

His brother was not.

His brother's biggest problem was double clicking.

He could never seem to do it fast enough and would often get very frustrated in his attempts.

One day, while his brother was away, my friend took a snapshot of his brother's screen, set it as the wallpaper, and cleared the desktop of all icons.

You can't even begin to imagine how frustrated his brother grew trying and failing for hours to click on the "icons" in the wallpaper.

That was a good one!!!

When I was working for Boeing and one of my friends would leave, I would re-map the keyboard. That would frustrate them for a few minutes. But the worst I pulled was when one of my friends wasn't feeling well with an upset stomach and had to run to the bathroom. While he was gone, I changed the background to a very puky orange and the text to a lime green. When he came back and turned off the screen saver, he had to run back to the bathroom!
