I have problem and need Your advice.
My firm has a net with 20-25 PCs. We have PPP-conection with our ISP. PPP-modem for connecting is on PC with Windows98. We use WinRoute as a proxy-server for internet-service for our firm.
We have problem -- this proxy does not support ICQ -- we may not connect to ICQ server. We have tried proxy WinGate & it lets us to gain VERY bad & unstable connection for ICQ-service via port 1080 by SOCKS 5. But this connection is very unstable -- we may not support normal speach even for 10-15 minutes.

If somebody may advice some good Proxy-server, that may support ICQ-service, please tell me. We stay in the face of dilemma -- to install simple and (at general) unneeded now for us FreeBSD or still looking for good proxy for Windows.

Thanx a lot for all advices.

What version of Wingate were you using. I used Wingate in the past with ICQ. The only difficulty I experienced was not being able to file transfer through ICQ. All other facilities of ICQ worked just fine. I was using Wingate V3 at the time.

I found Wingate to be an excellent all round proxy server.
