My brother is getting a burner for christmas and I havn't really had any exp with them, so I was hoping someone could recommend good software for one.Oh yeah and I remember reading a while ago how burners lifespans are significantly reduced due to the laser always being on, was there a way of fixing that?
Thx in advance

There should already be a bundled CD burning software that comes with the CDRW drive. It will either be Adaptec Easy Cd Creator, Nero Burning ROM, or Cequadret Win On CD. They all have their different chracteristics..

As for the issue on laser always being on, that will depend on the make and model of your CDR or CDRW drive. Contact the manufacturer of the drive and ask them what the specs are for the laser being on when idle. Yamaha for one is a manufacturer that has the laser on at all times for no apparent reasons. Like I said it depends on the drive manufacturer and model... But the way I see it, you don't burn CD's every minute or hour, it's a planned thing in most cases for most people, so regardless if laser being on or off at all times, this methos is one way you can decrease some power on life time. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks that just what I was after, I haven't had ANY experience what so ever with CDRW's.
I had a friend though who said he had to change the cdrw software on his because it didn't work properly with what came in the box.Don't know what his got but he is far,far..... from and IT expert.

I use a few burning progs for my CDRW: CDRwin, Nero, Discjuggler, and CloneCD. From my experiences, most are great. I tend to stay away from Adaptec EZ CD creator or Direct CD cuz they just screw things up.

My favs are Nero (general burning), CDRwin (only for bin/cue), and CloneCD (it can copy CDs EXACTLY with raw bits)

I use Adaptec Easy Cd Creator V.4.02 and Padus Disk Juggler and both do their jobs very well. Never do I get "Bad Burns".
