I have a problem, i want to know if the cable im getting is suitable for my network, i have 2 computers linked through a hub (5 port) and they work fine, but i need to connect another computer, only problem is the cable that is long enough is different i think, the ends are the same but its a "CAT5 X-Over cable " i dont know if that is able to work, the other 2 cables to link mine and the other are RJ45, if i buy this cable will it work with the hub and everything ok? get back to me as soon as you can please

Thank you

Hey Xyrus, that'd be a cross over cable you've got there which is only useful in connecting two computers without the use of a hub. Go out and purchase regular cat 5 and you'll be able to add that other computer. ;)

yeah, crossover cables are use for linking 2 computers or linking switches. The only problem is that they charge you so much for networking cable(premade). I just went and bought 1000Ft. a crimper and 100 ends. So I made my cables and make some for my friends and make a profit.

"CAT5 X-Over cable" are hubless cables goes from NIC to NIC what you want is a drop cable or straight truough cable see : HERE. (http://www.avontech.co.uk/advice/cat5.htm)

Little-known fact:

The crossover cable can actually be used between a hub "uplink" port and a PC. If your hub/router has such a port, try it.
