I finially worked up the courage to try doing something that could potentially fry my $210 AthlonXP 1600+ and who knows what else. Thank Gawd I didn't kill it. Unfortunetly, it was a mostly a failiure. I spent the most of today trying different materials and techniques for joining the L1 bridges, and just about an hour ago I finially settled on a job that I thought would be OK. Well, I have discovered that my only multipliers are 10.0 & 10.5 (10.5 default). Any settings in BIOS below 10.5 or above 14 don't work, and all the others make the multiplier 10.0 or 10.5. Maybe tomorrow I'll try unlocking this thing again.
I was shocked by what I say when I took off the heatsink. The only evidence of contact between the bottom of the HS and the Core was a tiny little patch of thermal **** on the core and the corrosponding missing patch on the bottom of the heatsink. THERMAL PADS SUCK!!! I also noticed that my system is dusty as hell inside. There's also the watercooling that I am going to try building soon.
It sound's like I'll have a busy spring break.

What material did you use to join the bridges?
Also, I scrapped that pink h/s pad stuff off my h/s and use thermal paste.

I used a conductive copper pen thing. I just sqirted a blob onto a piece of paper and dipped a 0.5mm pencil into the copper. Then I drew on the copper lines.
I think the reason that it didn't work is because one or two of the connections is bad/none or one or two of the connections grounded out. Also, I found out this morning that also have 9.0 and 9.5 multipliers, for a total of 4(9.0,9.5,10.0,10.5). I guess its not that bad because I can use the 9.0 multiplier and found out how high my FSB can go without really overclocking the cpu.
I used some REAL paste when I put this thing back together.

Well, with the multiplier set to 9.0x, I can raise my FSB to at least 166mhz. My ram clock is currently set to 125mhz. I will try setting it to 166mhz and see how it goes, although I am expecting it to crash. As of now I have completed 3dmark2001 5 times with no problems. My AGP bus speed is 4X 84mhz (336mhz effective) and my PCI bus speed is 42mhz. Everything except my EES PCI soundcard is working. I'll try using the builtin VIA sound later.
My current clock speed is 9*166mhz =1.49ghz. More to come!

I've now got the multiplier to 9.5 and I boosted the ram clock. My CPU is now running @ 1.58ghz(166*9.5) and my PC2100 DDR ram is @ 166mhz CAS 2.5 (PC2700)! Maybe these low multipliers aren't so bad afterall? Well, I now have no sound though.

Not bad, but what could you get it up to before using the default multiplier?

I'm waitin to see how you do before I mess with mine. So far in the stock mode it will clock to 1585mhz max (10.5x150-38)
How come so much for the chip? Think I'm just gonna buy an XP2100 LOL So if you fry yours hollar and I'll sell ya another for half that!

1.6ghz seems to be the max for my CPU no matter what bus and multipliers are used.
It didn't cost a lot because it was $210 CANADIAN, and I bought it when it first came out.

Ahhh! Canadian Daneros! I see said the blind man to his deaf wife. Figured it was when it just came out part. Who's ever dollars, it hurts when you buy them branny new. I keep watching them come down here lately and keep telling myself to wait! About the time I'm ready they'll bring out something new and the whole **** thing will start over! HA Back to the subject, Got my CPU temp down to 42c tonite by way of a swiftec cooler, which Busyboys.com said would fit! Which it did after I sawed off some clearance. But she still doesn't like to go much higer. Thinkin of going to Wal-Mart and buying one of those dorm room refrigerators and building it into a heat exchanger, HA. Puting water in a PC just doesn't set right with me and the best you can do without refrigeration is ambient, Right, well maybe a peltier might go lower. Oh well Keep Tweakin!
Oh I did try 1.775v but read somebody's post that was 1.85 on vcore? Whadda Ya tink? shalom man!
