Back again...
Is there really worth the time to try and OC a P4 (2.2GHz)?
several people say no, just leave it alone...
The mobo is a Asus P4B that can go to 2.4GHz.
I'd like to say to my buddies "I'm running at 2.4", but not at the risk of any damage!

Thanks for everyone's info I've received so far, even the one's talking "BAD" about my use of memory.....PC133

Lesson learned, but that was the only type for that board.

Keep the info. coming on what you think....OC or just leave it alone.

Stephen

p.s-One person thought the P4 was locked and couldn't be tinkered with or so he thought. (true/false)?

1. If you really want to - go for it and don't listen to anyone :)
I say only 10MHz FSB o/c (110MHz) would give you 2.42GHz of blazing speed :D

2. All Intel processors are multiplier locked, however, you can unlock it by soldering few pins, but it voids warranty and highly not adviced !

Just up the FSB a little. It wont take much more to get to 2.4

Plus it should still be very stable and you wouldnt see a huge temp jump.

Go for it.

Like most everyone here, go for some P4 overclocking love. Of course, be aware of what overclocking can do to your system. A slight increase in fsb is an easy way to maximize your purchase and you wouldn't necessarily have to look into exotic cooling or removing the stock cooler for aftermarket ones. You know, it wasn't too long ago that ANY increase in speed was considered great such as going from a 40MHz to 44 MHz (386 machines). Now, its common talk to get a 200 MHz overclock heh heh. :)

Go for it!!! You'll be amazed at the sensation of power you'll get. Maybe it's just me but I really do feel powerful when I o/c something.

Hey, go for it! :)

If it's not stable just set it down to 2.2 and you are back to the starting point :)
why not 2.5? the mobo will most likely support that too...
What cooling do you use and what are your current temps?

I have the same motherboard, the P4B266 and I have a P4 1.8 ghz. I also want to take the conservative route and only up my fsb but I don't know how, can anyone help? Does upping the vcore voltage affect the fsb? Please help :)

that Asus board is great for OCin the p4 so i say go for it guys...upping the FSB to 110 probably wont give you any heat/stability problems :P

As for the Vcore voltage affecting the FSB, not that im aware, but it will increase temps on the processor.

I love my Asus p3b-f :) got its FSB @ 140 :)

How do I increase the fsb?

You adjust your FSB in your bios. If you don't know how to adjust your FSB then you should read up a little before you begin to fiddle with it.

Read your ASUS manual to start, If you don't have one you can download it from their site. Stay away from voltage changes till you do some reading!. Have pushed a 1.8 to 2.2 very easily with just the FSB. Enjoy!
