Most definitely you get what you pay for ! You cant go wrong with Plextor,HP or Yamaha. Plextor is among the best, followed by HP and Yamaha. I went for the 9110i by HP (8x4x32) and I love it. Almost as big a consideration is the software. It seems to be the consenus here that Nero is the best followed by Padius Diskjuggler. I stopped making coasters when I dumped the Adaptec. I advise everybody to stay away from generic or low-end no-name units as the time setting them up and keeping them going can drive you crazy. hope this helps a lil bit! good luck..steve

how about the Mitsumi 4x/4x/24x seen a lot of 4 and 5 stars for this product in the user reviews and for around 120 bucks?
or how about Toshiba DVD/CD-Writer Combo 4x/4x/4x/24x? have not seen a review on it?

I had forgotten about the Mitsumi brand, I think they make a pretty good product as well. Unforunately, Im not a Toshiba fan as I had problems with a 10x Toshiba DVD player that dragged out way to long. Hope that helps a lil bit more.. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif steve

Is it really worth the extra money for a Plextor burner? I've been hearing conflicting advice on this. I'm thinking of going with the less expensive 8x4x32 Plextor, but there's a whole lot more out there at a much cheaper price. I've always thought you get what you pay for, but in this case I'm not quite sure. Any suggestions?TIA

Thanks for the advice. I still dont know what the heck to buy. Shouldnt I be looking for the faster models or does this just make more coasters? I hear 10x and 12x end up unreadable by anyone but you.

Go for a Plextor with the "BurnProof" technology or the Yamaha 16/10/40 with the big 8MB buffer and you shouldn't any coasters.
