Yeah, just like the question says. I've been using it for a while and it doesn't seem quite as stable as 98 SE... What are your experiences with it?

I've been using it for a while and it doesn't seem quite as stable as 98 SE... What are your experiences with it? Roy 12-13-2000, 09:17 PM I know two or three people who upgraded to it and went back to W98SE. "Nothing but trouble" was the typical comment. My niece has a brand new system with ME and it's fine. Maybe starting from scratch it's OK. Playing with hers, the one thing I noticed that bothered me was that instead of "Find >Files or Folders" it has "Search >for Files or Folders"! I consider this to be a really stupid change and wonder what other things share the dumbing down. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif [This message has been edited by Roy (edited 12-13-2000).] DemonKnight 12-13-2000, 09:40 PM I know a guy who got the upgrade and said it sucked then he got a new system with the full version and said its preaty good. so I'm thinking that yea starting from scratch its ok but upgrading isnt work it. you could always go with Linux though. aaronlai 12-14-2000, 08:49 AM I ve so far installed ME on 6 PCs. So far its OK. But got to be careful with older hardware & apps. It might be wise to get the latest updates. JackAndCoke 12-14-2000, 09:10 AM ive found with that WinME works great for about 1 or 2 months but then trouble starts to pop up all the time, its like it corrupts very easily.ive also read that the clean install is better then the upgrade.i had to reinstall this os more then Win98 hmmmmm boot up times are great and when it crashes at least it doesnt take the kernel with it the app just shuts down.... Techie Dude 12-14-2000, 03:01 PM I have ME instaled, and have had it installed for about 4 months now. I find it very reliable. (0 reinstalls) Certainly more reliable than 98 on my system! You have to accept that the USER can affect how the system operates. Not only that, but the hardware in a users computer may cause instability for the OS. It`s not the OS, it`s bad drivers / hardware / user error that causes the problems! I have configured my system correctly, optimized certain settings........and everything is fine! An OS doesn`t generally kill it`s self! I have had 95 installed on a battery testing machine at work since the day I bought it! Never an error, never a reboot (except to shutdown at night). It`s all the **** we install that causes our OS`s to die! I do accept though, that sometimes the OS developers change certain standards which affects hardware and such things. But to be honest, Microsoft would give the hardware producers plenty of time to incorporate the changes with drivers and stuff! Therefore, it`s down to the hardware producers a lot of the time! Dodgy Hardware + Dodgy Software = Unstable system! Correctly Configered System + Fully Compatible Hardware = Stable System! See, it`s easy to understand! TD. A perfectally stable system ( electrically/electronically ) can run riot with the incompatible software loaded. My limited knowledge of software, stretches to MSoft products, but in my experience MSoft is far from giving manufactuer's time to develop adequate driver's for the operating system. In the early day's I had an understanding of onyx, zenix, and unix based system's, but now have forgotten more than I know. All the best, Justy. Richard_Cranium72 12-14-2000, 04:55 PM I'll leave the Plus Side to MS. Negatives 1. Limited Hardware Support, does not support as much as Win98 2. Kernel 32.dll Errors galore, many users report this. 3. Changed Graphics limits ability to scroll back and forth using IE for preview 4. Much slower applications, faster boot though. 5. WhyMe gets worse and worse, you Hope against Logic KNOWING it will have to be trashed and return to 98. 6. Even the Mentally challenged customer at Office Depot today said "Win-Ooze Me Suck" So obviously you don't have to be a genius to see that MicroSwamp has released a loser in at least SOME editions of WinME DrVette and I bought 2 copies http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif SysOpt.com
