I mounted a 92mm fan in the spare bays. In my case, this is basically in a direct line with cpu and the exhaust fan. I took a dremel too the bay cover...but I could open it up a bit more. I also put a hole in the bay cover below the floppy, a surprising amount of air is sucked down there to the 80mm intake fan near the bottom. I also opened the holes in front of the intake fan with a dremel drill bit. Also, I took out the very restrictive metal bit in front of the intake fan. Sure, it has holes, but still, I guess 40%-50% was blocked. Again, I did it with the dremel. It made it quieter as well.
I rounded my floppy and cd-rom cables. And I just tucked my 80 wire hard drive cable in the bay directly above.

Theres also a case exaust"60" on the back inside.
As well as a "60" intake on the bottom front.

I mounted a 80mm fan to blow directly onto my dual P3 733Mhz CPU's and there is also a twin 80mm fans mounted in my top external 5.25" bay to suck out hot air. I also have (1) 80mm fan mounted at the bottom-front of my case to suck in cool air and (1) 80mm fan to blow hot air out of the back of the case as well.
Despite the fact that dual CPU systems run quite warm compared to single CPU systems, my system runs at 21C. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Used a dremel to cut the window area, the window is made from plexi-glass, attached with exterior silicon compound. Mounted two 60mm fans on the side and one on the top -fans on the side each have a filter attached to their rear. I could have used bigger fans but it's loud enough as it is, and it keeps things cool enough for my liking. I plan on adding a neon light inside when I find the time.
A couple more details and more pictures can be found on this page on my site (http://www.utilitygeek.com/howto/en7237/index.html) .

Yep its from Clear-view tech jl nailed it, and if you look NDC they have a full tower case also available, one thing I didnt anticipate when choosing this case was the fact that it actually runs cooler due to (and im guessing here) the plastic doesnt hold the heat like metal does, the REAL trick is wiring everything properly, I shortened, trimmed, replaced, folded, and rounded every cable and wire in that thing to keep with the "clean" appearance you almost cant see the wiring and the air-flow is GREAT!!

They come from an old CUBE. They were used to cool the memory modules (I think total of 64MB --in 1989!!). Sadly these fans were the only parts worthy of dismantling before this $75000 monster went to trash in favor of our new $130000 CUBE.
They are 220V 11W each, but have no idea what their cfm is. They do a good job with all these HD's running at 7200/10000rpm. Without the fans case temp rises 10-12C and the 10K disk is too hot to touch.

They're called "cable rounders" or you can just run to any harware stores or go to "Lumber City" and buy them...
thekingofpain
11-20-2000, 08:30 AM
I think they call it "splitloom" and autoparts stores usually have it in different colors, while youre lookin see if they have "spiralwrap" there are 2 different widths of it, ¼" and ½" the ¼" works GREAT and allows you to bundle your wires much smaller in diameter then the splitloom...
fshanda
11-20-2000, 08:42 AM
Found my rounding material at Western Auto in the electrical section. Any auto parts store should carry this item. When I separated the wires on my cable I used my fingernails. Cut them so that I had a sharp edge on the side of my nail and just slid my nail in between the wires. You only have to get it started then you can gently pull wires apart. I didn't do my ATA66 cable, it felt like the wires were going to break as I was separating them. Ill try my heat gun and fold the cable.

I wish I had a digital camera . . . I'd show you my case.
Tw1112, for your information:
1. Joel's case, if I'm not mistaken, is an Antec case (KS280B). Looks like mine, that's for sure. And yes, it's very roomy inside.
2. Only one suggestion I have for you about your case: Tie up the power wires. That's just my opinion, because I don't like having wires all loose and not tied down. Other than that, it looks great!
jl123

Yes it is an Antec case. I don't know what the model number is because I picked it up at CompUSA! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I saw it and I fell in love with it. It is a very sturdy case that has a lot of room. The only downfall is that you guys probably need more bays for your RAID or SCSI drives. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif But I believe that they make a full tower just like mine(more bays!). I use an Olympus D-360L. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif It's a 1.3Megapixel that seems to work nicely. I bought it for $299US. I use Presto ImageFolio to shrink down the pics. I mean like it might be 980X1200 and I just change that first value to 640 pixels. But then again a lot of software lets you do that. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Hi, actually from the picture you cannot really tell, but the cables are all zip tied to the case so that they are out of the way. The airflow is great...one fan blows directly onto both of my hard drives, another one blows into my system while the one in back and the top blowhole cleans out the hot air. The cpu and all the cards stay very cool. The thing about the CoolerMaster Case is that it is actually smaller than most mid-towers. The hard drive bays are in the front at the bottom so that I have to stretch power cables all the way down to the bottom from the power supply. The other thing is that I just got my adaptec 39160 scsi card, the Ultra160 cable is pretty expensive so I don't really want to mess around with cutting it or doing anything that I may do that might damage the cable. I have rounded all other cables and also tied down almost all the cables. Not really sure if there is anything else I can do..

Oh go on then, its a good excuse to use my new camera.
You'll notice the Sandisk CFII card reader for the IBM microdrive from the camera.
Had to mod the case a little to get the temperature monitor in (only had 2 5.25 bays)
New case already bought.

Is that a stock heatsink/fan on that chip? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif j/k
are you overclocking or anything? Maybe a upgrade(to a better cooler) could aid in your overclocking.
Anyone else want to show off their computer? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Joel,
If you were referring to my heatsink, then yes it is a stock Intel jobby. If you look at the front pic you can just make out the processor temp (between proc and H/S), 29.2 deg C, warms up a little over the evening, but not above 35-36.
Did overclock to 744, all OK for months, then crashes, wasn't the temp though, dropped back to 600 for the time being.

http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Yes I saw your temp. I was just making a suggestion to ease some troubles that can can occur with stock cooling.
