Well, I think a good regular mouse will do the trick, I have two regular mice, one from microsoft and the other from compaq. Both work great, but I love the one from compaq, its cheap, simple and accurate.

No need for a expensive optical mouse to play game.

:( i'm just too poor

I love my dual optical mouse made by logitech.

Optical are way faster than standard ps2 mice. But dont get a a codless one. They don't preform as well in gaming.

Another nice thing i like about my logitech optical is it is so light. You dont even know you have it in your hand.

After this mouse I will never go back to the mice with balls.

I'm using the MS Optical mouse, and it's pretty awesome for gaming. The biggest ***** I had with traditional mice was getting the crosshair right between some poor *******'s eyes only to miss because of a sudden jerk due to dust, dirt and lint that built-up on the mouse's ball tracks. I'd have to clean those **** things once a week.

I don't play any FPS without an optical mouse of some type. I have an IBM Optical Navigator & an MS Intellimouse Optical, and I prefer the MS between the two, but the IBM gets the job done.

I am/was really into gaming. Now when I made the transision from an mouse with a ball to optical I found that if you move the mouse somewhat fast it tends to lose track of where it is at. Also if you piviot the mouse to the right and move it forward it will act irradically sometimes... other than that they work great... Keep in mind my observations happen only every so often. I will say one thing though... optical mice are a heck of a lot more accurate for those sniping situations... ;)

the moving very fast and going mental thing is a microsoft thing it seems, my non-optical intellimouse pro did that. It seems the mouse accelleration does this. Just turn that off and hope for the best.

I absolutely LOVE gaming with the Intellimouse Optical. If the game allows, I set the wheel to scroll between weapons, and the side buttons for strafe. It works GREAT!

Think I'll chime in here as well. First of all, if you go optical mice, get one with dual lasers as they greatly increase your tracking. I've got a corded Logitech wheel mouse optical and it works great! Like everyone already mentioned, you don't have to worry about picking up crud over time with your traditional ball mouse. Now for the bummer, I picked up the Logitech Cordless Freedom Optical set (the mouse only has one laser) and like gibsinep mentioned already (hmm, I seem to be agreeing with you a lot recently heh heh), they suck for gaming. However, the cordless keyboard works just fine. I think in the near future, I'm going to pawn the set off and just go with the corded Mouseman dual optical from Logitech. BTW, does anyone have the iFeel mouse from Logitech? Is it a good gaming mouse?

In anycase, below is one particular website's review on the Cordless Freedom Optical.Tech Zone (http://www.thetechzone.com/display.php?i=138&p=1)
