Question number 1 depends on how much you value speed versus storage space. It's a personal decision, with widely varying opinions. If you go for the ATA/100 drive, make sure your motherboard or IDE controller supports it first.

For question 2, if you're just worried about games, probably just the CD drive for now. I'm sure DVD will become popular for games in the future, but right now it's probably not worth it.

GZ, I don`t think there`s any DVD games yet, but I`m sure that there soon will be. Adventure games most common I bet!

Christ, imagine playing a game for 20 mins, then having to watch another 30 mins of FMV!

only get the 20gb hd if it is 7200rpm, if it's just 5200 it's not any faster than the 30 or 40...

And YES there are DVD games for the computer. Two of them usually come free with creative's DVD bundle, A dvd version of Wing Commander IV, and a game called claw. There is another game by Access Software Called Tex Murphey Overseer, which comes on 5 CDs/ or 1 DVD...

Yes, there are DVD games!!

When I bought my Phillips 532 DVD player 1 1/2 years ago, it came with a "Hollywood Real Magic" MPEG Decoder card and 2 games. The games were "Zork Grand Inquisitor" and "Spycraft".

Since I am not a gamer, they sit in the rack and haven't been installed. (Waiting until my son decides to try them, then will load them.) So I can't tell you how good they are, or whether DVD gaming would be worth it.

I only paid $69 for the Phillips set-up new, so it was worth it to me!

I'd do a little research on that ata100 idea before i purchased anything....

I'm pretty sure that the theoretrical gains are no where near the true performance gains for those...

1) Is it better to get a Hard Drive with umda/100 and be only say 20g or get a umda/66 and get a bigger Hard Drive say maybe a 40 or 30 if the price is the same as the 20g umda/100?

2) In a system how important is it to get the dvd drive/software- is there alot of dvd games or should i get the cd drive and save the money? I don't think I'll will use the computer for dvd viewing. If the adventur/role playing has alot of games that are dvd based I would go with the dvd.

or should i skip both and get a cd burner?
