Anyone has luck with the freeware/shareware on the Call Waiting Softwares ?
Have a unit to deliver and customer wants it, I do too.
Don't want to try just anything if I can help it.
Any success stories ?
If no, just links to the stuff will be appreciated.
Thanks
DrVette
Here you go, Richard:

Haven't tried it myself, but friend says it does the job. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Call Wave (http://www.callwave.com) has a nice demo.
BTW ~ I'm thinking of leaning the primaries on a QuadraJet. Smaller jets or larger needles?

Thanks NDC & Roy.
Roy, on a pre-81 non-electronic, smaller jets would be easiest.
AND, important note, set up the needle holders in a Square device.
It is very common for the holder to become slightly bent allowing one needle to seat before the other causing a Rich/Lean mix.
Bend the holder so that both bottom out at the exact same time.
Use epoxy on all 4 of the float bowl plugs to keep "Hot-Soak" flooding down.
Weigh the float and compare to a new one.
Usually about 4-7 grams new.
On the secondary jetting, I use Big Block needles and a weak spring setting allowing a huge jump in performance.
Couple this with some weak advance curve springs and a curve kit in the distributor for "interceptor" HI-PO kit http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
This is how I met the 'Now' Chief of County Police http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
I smoked him in a "68 Impala and he was in a big block Charger.
I ran off and left him with his big block going "Moooooooo" cya, bye bye.
Then a mile later when he caught up, little blue lights n the grill started flashing,, OH SH** http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I have to agree, CallWave is definatly the premire software for call waiting. Its completely free, and now they even offer the option of setting it up with you phone company. www.callwave.com (http://www.callwave.com)
Highly recommended- there is just a little window (sorry, but it won't dock) that has little tiny ads playing.

do any of those work in Canada?
i dont really count Canada "out" of the US.
when i sighned up for some free cisco books, it was 'only' within the US, but 2 weeks later i got the book.
also, does callwave use ads?

Thanks, Doc! Do you have any thoughts about taper if I use larger needles instead?
Good note about checking the hanger for square. I usually glance at that detail, but I'll pay more attention. I'm only playing with the primaries, the old '68 Eldorado is getting too many gallons per mile with the garbage gas here in CA. The float's OK and JB Weld has been on the bowl plugs forever.
I love your story about the Chief! It sounds like entrapment, but you'd have needed a good witness. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

I have dwnld about 5 or 6 trying to find one that is simple quick and usr frndly, try Advanced Call Center- it works great! easy to configure and not as obtrusive as others I've seen. I think I got it at "filedudes", I will chk to verify...

Roy, on the taper, you'll need a small lathe to accurately change it, for richer anyway.
I have a rig that's useful for fine tuning like you're doing.
A Air/Fuel Ratio meter.
Little hose goes into the pipe and you ride around and take readings, helps to have a stenographer http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Minor changes in a/f ratio can be achieved by moving the float level.
Think of a Hydroelectric dam, a 600 foot dam has more pressure on the turbines than a 300 foot dam.
The same is true for float level.
Keep your timing so high that you DO get spark knock at times. Run it on manifold vacuum instead of Venturi, it'll take some fiddling to get it right.
Get a MSD box too, these help the old girl.
A HEI ignition is called for also.
On the Police Dodge Charger, it was identical to Monster Hooters(my g/f http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif) Brothers car.
So when he pulled into the 4-lane highway I slowed to 10mph and romped it, "y-naaaaa", he went "Mooo"..

More great notes! Thanks!
I should have been more clear about the taper issue. I don't mean changing the taper, only that a larger needle will have an ever so slightly different taper. All things considered, it really can't make a significant difference for my situation.
I do like the concept surrounding the float level/hydraulic pressure thoughts. As for the other things, I might go for electronic points ~ Pertronics or (?) ~ but part of the "rules" is "original" (looking, at least. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif)

I'd do ANYTHING before tampering with Primary needles.
Your setup is very hard to duplicate, fuel curve is a strange bird to cage.
JC Whitney and All the Race car catalogs have various a/f ratio meters.
Prices start at $40 for one that hooks into a O2 sensor. These are not as accurate as a full blown unit that goes into the tail pipe.
I found a cause for burnt valves once.
A customer who worked on his car complained about 2 times burning valves and surging..
I hooked up the meter and down the road we went.
As soon as we leveled out the a/f meter went waaaaay lean past 17 to 1 and pegged out.
The car surged back and forth..
I quizzed him. It seems that he grabbed a carb off a SMALLER engine.. This had smaller jets, hence super lean..
I LOANED him a pristine $800 carb, never to be seen again..
moral of the story, run stock needles, change other stuff.. It's easier to un-do.
U-no sumptin, I get e-mails every now and then,
"Do you REALLY have a Vette ??"

Thanks, again. I think it's time to let this thread go to sleep.
When I get to playing, I'll see what seats and needles are in my collection and observe the most important rule. "Make only one change at a time."
Ever hear of a '57 Vette called Orange Crate II? It was raced and wrecked in the late '50s. My good friend has it, in 100 point restored condition "as raced". Me? I stick with early Eldos and a '64 Chevelle wagon. I "hot rod" computers instead. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
