Are you sure that it isnt 2400 bps. Daniel... mad1 12-10-2000, 09:31 AM Yes, here is the latest. 4054Kbps Worm 12-10-2000, 02:34 PM I think we are misinterpretting something here. Maybe 4,000 kilobits per second, remember 8 bits makes a byte. So at 2,400k/bits per second, you're really talking about 300 kilobytes per second. Worm Oh, FYI Kb stands for kilobits KB stands for kilobytes. [This message has been edited by Worm (edited 12-10-2000).] Ollie46 12-10-2000, 03:14 PM I agree with Worm. At the rate your talking about you wouldn't even have to worry about testing your speed because you would be so fast that it wouldn't even matter. Ollie OuTpaTienT 12-10-2000, 03:36 PM I don't understand what you last two guys are trying to say. So he has a high of 4,000+kb/sec or 4+Megabits/sec or about 500KBytes/sec, ok...so what? No matter how you say it, it's all the same speed. And it's not even all that fast. Well, it IS fast, but I've seen much faster, even on my cable. Fastest speed I get is approaching 8,000kb/sec or 8Megabits/sec or about 1MByte/sec. It's common for me to get about 1MB/sec between the hours of 2am and 6am. And usually get about 300KBytes/sec during normal (peak) times. mad1 12-10-2000, 06:26 PM My point,if you will read my previous post on this subject. I was trying to find reasons for the major difference in download speed from the two programs. I have had faster download rates, this is not what is in question in this post (5498kbps).The peak speed is not the subject here or comparing speed with other members. As I stated prior I am trying to find reasons for the major downoad difference between the two progams, modem wiizard.com test dat & esynch test. dat file.DSL reports speed test results are similiar to modem wiizard.com test dat. OuTpaTienT 12-10-2000, 06:53 PM excuse me. Thud 12-10-2000, 10:11 PM I've read previously that your transfer rates using cable can vary a lot depending on how many users are on in your area at any given time. Might account for the differences. Actually, right now I'm using cable for the first time (at my brother's), and while I haven't looked at any "hard numbers", I have noticed quite a bit of variance. But it's still fast- I gotta get me some of this!! mad1 12-11-2000, 04:10 AM What I noticed, running esynchtest. dat file. the average speed is around 800kbps and with modem wiizard.com test dat the average speed is around 2500kbps. The fluctuations are very noticeable during certain periods of the day. I will try to post the graph results that I have later, easier to notice the icrease in speed after changing programs. Thanks everyone for your input. Ollie46 12-12-2000, 11:08 AM My bad I misinterpretted myself. I completely reversed my thinking when I typed that. Go figure!!! Anyway, that speed makes since.. Where do you live, in or near a big city or in a rural area. in 10 mile perimiter, how many people and businesses do you estimate to be there. Ollie Ultima 12-12-2000, 11:35 AM Well, I am in Holland, and am pretty close to one of chello's servers. They said that the max speeds was 300Kilobytes/s download and 150Kilobytes/s upload. Till now, my max download has been 616Kilobytes/s and upload was 231Kilobytes/s Way outta spec, but I just don't care. LOL Pim Ollie46 12-12-2000, 06:58 PM Mad, I live in a rural area in Delaware. Comcast @home just released in our area. The lady told me that they are trying to put nodes in each neighborhood, so only a neighborhood is sharing the connection. So in your area, your speed will depend on how many nodes @home has allocated to your area. the more nodes, the more the load is balanced and the faster you are gonna connect. Plus if it's a new thing, then only the geeks are gonna sign up 5,000/4 =1250, of them only 1/2 will probally go with that so you are left with about 625 people. Divide that amongst 5 nodes, thats 125 people sharing the line and only about 25% of them are on at any given time so thats only 31 people. Thats not bad. Of course I am picking these numbers up randomly, trying to be close. So your connection won't be too bad. This is the thinking I did when I decided to sign up. Haven't gotten the equipment yet, I hope I'm right. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Ollie [This message has been edited by Ollie46 (edited 12-12-2000).] mad1 12-13-2000, 12:37 AM I live rural area. There are probably many new customers all the time.@HOme is aggressively trying to get new customers, they keep sending me the same literature. There are some businesses with many new houses being built(5,000 people).
