Where have I been , Under some rock ?

I've never heard of 200mb Floppies before, am I all alone in my dim world ?

"FUJIFILM HiFD 200MB, 3.5" floppy disk:
The new standard in high capacity storage.

The rise in Internet use and multimedia oriented PCs running data intensive applications has generated demand for higher capacity storage media - much higher than the conventional 3.5" floppy disk provides.

HiFD also offers full backward compatibility, which means it can read and write to your current library of standard 3.5" floppies.

The revolutionary HiFD 200MB, 3.5" floppy disk made possible by Fujifilm's proprietary ATOMM DUAL COATING technology provides the added capacity, reliability and high data transfer rates needed for today's applications. "

I'm not really sure, canit. But I'm sure it's like an arm and a leg!

Check out FujiFilm's spec sheet on it here: http://www.fujifilm.com/HiFD_Specs.pdf

Later.

The LS-120 has been around for quite a while now...
I have using one for more than a year now. One LS-120 floppy can hold up to 120MB and the LS-120 drive is fully backward compatible with a 3 1/4 floppy disk.

"Drive Compatibility- All HiFD Drives"

booo hiss

Sony HiFD Drive 200mb, 60 times faster than the conventional 3,5-inch floppy -->> http://www.sony-cp.com/_E/Products/Storage/hifd/Index.html

A article from 1997, boy I have been under a rock http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif->>
The HiFD drive also works at hard disk speed, finally taking the 3.5-inch drive off the bottleneck list-->> http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag/insites/dvorak_print/jd980210.htm

and http://www.zdnet.co.uk/pcdir/reviews/2000/09/sony/

I guess this is just another Zip/Iomega/ Syquest knock off.

Non compatibility No marketing success, cept of the Zip(Click of Death)

My fav was the Syquest 1.0gb not mb GB !

They died at the hands of the cheaper Zip drive, equally useless http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Doc I tried a search in the floppy section of Buy.com but I couldn't find the Fuji drive. Cujo informative link(have you seen a price?). Doc just saw what you wrote, so they won't work in Stan's LS-120(is LS-120 HiFD?)?

Naa, buy.com don't have the Hiwhatchacallit drive.

and No it don't work with the LS-120 drive either.

I have a pair of the LS-120 drives and I like the smmoth sounds they make in operation.

I have a Syquest 1.0gb drive too, man it's slow.

The Fuji drive is almost as fast as a Hard Drive according to them http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Yea Right

I'd have to witness that,, show me..

Well, to start with, I was hopeful some NEW miracle had bestowed us with a 200 mb disc that would work in standard 3.5's NOT..
oH WELL..

Yeah, actually that's really nothing new.... The "FUJIFILM HiFD 200MB, 3.5" floppy disk" was released in early 1999 but had some compatibility problems and they were all quietly pulled off the racks from major stores like Comp USA. I guess they got the problem solved now, hopefully.....
