Hello,
I have a pc that won't boot. It says CMOS battery low. I read somewhere that if you clear the CMOS, somehow the battery will no longer be low (I guess it's magic). I moved the jumpers to clear CMOS. When I boot with the jumpers in the Clear position, it still says CMOS battery low but it also says Checksum error. When I put the jumper back in the normal position, it still says CMOS battery low. Was I suppose to do something in CMOS setup with the jumpers in the clear position? Is there anything else I can try?

HELP!!!!

If it is one of the little round shiny ones just change the battery I think the number on it is 2032 or something like that.

If it is the round barrel type soldered on that's another story.

And welcome to sysopt.

I believe its the barrel. I don't know exactly where as I looked up the motherboard and the manual is in German. I don't see the round shiny one anywhere on the motherboard. I believe it looks like a watch battery so I'm inclined to believ its a barrel.

What can I do in this case?

The round shinny battery (watch type) needs to be replaced, then you wont have the error.I replaced one on my son's pc today(cr2032 from radio shack) Took all of 2 min.If you get a checksum error after replacing battery, just go into bios(tweak setting if you want) ...save settings and reboot. If you dont have a watchlike battery on the mobo(motherboard) then you have a older soldered on battery(looks like a big chip sometimes) then your only choices are replacing the motherboard or "wiring" a battery to the mobo.
hope this helps

Unfortunately it doesnt have the round battery. How can I wire a battery to the motherboard? I'd rather not replace it if I don't have to.

A little more info would be a great help now.

Brand of machine or motherboard.

Model number and anything else you can come up with will be helpful.

When you first turn on the computer hit pause when the first screen appears.

On the bottom of the screen there will be a string of numbers.

Example.

2A59I-XXXX-XXXX

or

51_0102-XXXX

or

40-01S5-XXXX

Write this whole line down and post it here and we'll try to find it for you.
