on board video wont go away!!

I have a pc100 mobo,super 7 #m598 333MHz 64meg ram on board 8meg video SiS 620 shared. My son couldn't play games so I bought a GeForce2 mx200 video card from NVIDIA. I can't get it to work, I can't disable the on-board, and it won't work with both plugged in. are there any suggestions? I and my family would be really greatful for a solution. Thanks.:confused:

Are you saying that you went into the bios and there is no option to disable the onboard ?

Disable (do not remove) in device manager. If you remove it, your operating system will try to reinstall because of the PnP characteristics.

I would also suggest getting another 128 megs of ram. It will stabilize the overall performance during game play.

1. Install card physically & connect to monitor
2. Boot
3. Disable on-board video in device manager
4. Follow on screen instructions (you will probably need to reboot here)

I went through this before with someone else. You can't disable the SIS 620 on board video on these boards. It coexists with the new video chipset as a dual monitor setup. Some one else was trying to use a Geforce2 MX 400 PCI card and couldn't get it to work.
The conclusion was that the Geforce2MX 400 card did not offer dual monitor support.
Make sure PCI is selected in BIOS under VGA graphics and as stated above, disable the SIS620 video in device manager. If this doesn't work, then you probably will have to replace that video card with one that offers dual monitor support.

The onboard video cannot be disabled. When I put the new video card into the slot, then I get nothing. monitor doesn't respond, just stays black.

It may be time for an upgrade with the motherboard. This way you can get a mobo that does not have onboard video. The newer mobo's have a much better list of enhancements over the one you have now.
