I want to upgrade my bios on a M577 board. I do not know if the award bios chip is soldered in or if it is a plugin.(I do not want to break the chip taking it out and I do not want to take out the motherboard to look underneath unless it is a last resort)
Can any one help?.

May I ask why you would want to remove the chip to upgrade the bios?...this is done with the chip installed in the motherboard by a flashing (software upgrade) process.

Thanks for your response. I was advised by the local guru to do this. Then I bought the chip ,and now I wish I had not. However in the help manual which came with the chip it mentions that there can be prroblems installing a flash Bios . I am trying to decide which is the lesser of the two evils.

I understand. Flashing a bios is a dangerous process, but can be safely done if someone studies and understands how it is done, and takes all of the proper precautions.

You will have to remove the motherboard to replace the chip...it can be done without the use of a special tool...carefully. But, you need to know if it is in a socket or is soldered to the board, which I doubt you can see until it is out of the case.

If you decide to flash the one you have, there are several members here to help you along. Just do not try it until you feel good about understanding how its done, and what takes place before a flash is started. There are some adjustments in your working bios to be changed prior to a flash ect.

I have a M577 board in front of me the BIOs chip appears to sit in a socket so that should make things a lot easier for you.
The www.PC Chips.nl site has the upgraded BIOS file and the relevant flasher exe.
