I did manage to find out (I think, PC Chips) what it was but it took me 5 hrs to get the sound and video working properly. there was no writing on this board except for fcc and typical mobo jibberish...r1,r2,cpu,dimm1 .the bios gave no indication either

Well you look up the FCC ID number at:
http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/
that will tell you the manufacturer but you'll still need to figure out the model. The easiest way is to download a program called Hardware Info at:
http://www.hwinfo.com/
Then make a boot disk (of course you'll need another computer to use to do this) when you run the program.
Then boot with the disk. The program will tell you all kinds of info including the motherboard type and model.
Then search :
http://www.google.com

One extra note: Be sure to go all the way through the menus of the Hardware Info program and scroll all the way down to the bottom in each menu for more detailed information about the components. The colored text are like weblinks that open up more info about the device.
Later; I'm otta here...

The BIOS does give an indication - the ID line at the bottom. What does it say there?
