Packaging and Features
The OCZ Dominatrix has a simple package, and from the outside, you will not see anything extraordinary. It ships in a standard package familiar to Logitech buyers, with the Dominatrix mouse highlighted in a plastic display shell, with cardboard accents surrounding it. But people say looks can be deceiving. Inside the box, you will find the Dominatrix mouse, a driver CD, the user's guide, and a puck, which is the holding case for the weights. This may not be as impressive as some higher-end products, but keep in mind this is a $35 mouse we're talking about.
In terms of the physical design, the Dominatrix includes two standard top-mounted buttons, a 4-way scroll-wheel/button, two side-mounted thumb buttons, and two user buttons below the scroll wheel. The sides of the mouse offer a blue no-slip rubber grip with contoured edges that ensure not finger/thumb dragging. The top of the Dominatrix mouse has a dark matte surface with some shiny edge accents to round out the aesthetics. As this is a wired mouse, the Dominatrix interfaces with the PC using a high-speed USB 2.0 connection featuring a 500 Hz polling rate.
The OCZ Dominatrix features a 3200DPI laser engine, adjustable DPI settings, four-way scrolling, and a user-configurable weight system. Another interesting feature is the on-board memory, which allows the user to store profile information on the mouse, so your settings work on every machine you use your mouse. To make all of this work, the mouse is connected through a High-Speed USB 2.0 port.
Laser engine specifications on the mouse include a tracking speed up to 45 inches/sec. and a rate of 7080 frames/sec., while the DPI adjustments features default settings of 400/800/1600/2000. These DPI settings can be shifted using the "DPI" button under the scroll wheel. You will also notice that the scroll wheel will light up and change color when you change of the DPI level. Underneath the Dominatrix, we find four large mouse "feet" that border the edges, along with the laser engine "eye" and the custom weight system.
The custom weight system is reminiscent of the one used in the Logitech G5, complete with individual weights, but there is no cartridge that you can fill up and insert. Instead, you simply open up the bottom of the mouse, and insert the amount of weight that you wish. By adding up 40 grams of weight to your mouse, this allows anyone to find the perfect balance for your individual needs. The handy puck is used to store weights that you have no need for, and can be easily stored away for later.
