ATI's All-In-Wonder X1800 XL Masters Graphics and Video Capture- Page 1/7
November 21, 2005
By Thomas Soderstrom

Canadian graphics card maker ATI virtually owns the integrated multimedia/graphics card market with its popular All-In-Wonder series. Though release dates for such products typically trail months behind the gaming cards on which their graphics processors are based, ATI’s multimedia products department didn’t stand idle as the world waited for the delayed X1800 series graphics processors to reach acceptable yields. Instead, they went to work using pre-production samples, giving them months of lead time. This, in turn, afforded ATI an opportunity to stand the multimedia world on its ear with the release of an All-In-Wonder card mere weeks after the gaming card that uses the same graphics processor!

It seems like just over two months have passed since ATI’s most recent All-In-Wonder release, and indeed that’s true! But the AIW X1800 XL addresses our chief reservation with the previous AIW X800 XL: While the earlier solution introduced a high-end card with midrange 3D performance, today’s release provides a cutting-edge 3D graphics processor!

But with so much focus on 3D performance, does the X1800 XL version still provide the great multimedia experience we’ve come to expect from All-In-Wonder products?
