The EVGA 7600GT CO Superclocked Edition goes long on performance and short on features. It doesn't include so much as a DVD player (included software is a limited-time trial), and nVidia even charges separately for its PureVideo decoder. But what the package lacks in multimedia features, it makes up for in outstanding 3D graphics prowess.
A mere $40 more than the standard 7600GT, a $239 suggested price seems reasonable for this Superclocked Edition. EVGA also offers the standard 7600GT for tighter budgets, and similarities between versions may have budget seekers trying their own hand at overclocking the cheaper card. Online vendor prices tend to fall rapidly below MSRP, and we expect to find all models at least 10 percent cheaper within a few weeks. Adding even more value to its decent price, EVGA includes its limited lifetime warranty.
A moderately noisy 50mm fan, similar to those found on 6600GT cards, is the only thing excluding this card from semi-professional environments. Home theater use would require both quieter cooling and nVidia's PureVideo decoder for best results, but those otherwise satisfied with the card's performance may wish to purchase such items separately.
Pros:
- Incredible 3D performance
- Short length fits most chassis
- Dual DVI plus dual VGA adapters
- Includes S-Video cable and Component Video dongle
- Midrange pricing
- Lifetime warranty!
Cons:
- Undersized, noisy cooler
- No DVD decoder software
The Verdict: Great 3D performance, moderate pricing, and a lifetime warranty make the EVGA 7600GT OC Superclocked Edition a top value for gamers on a middling budget. Noisy cooling and a lack of DVD software make the as-delivered product less desirable for power users and home-theater enthusiasts.
