Ultra's ChillTec CPU Cooler: Perfect For Your Ultra-Hot System?- Page 3/5
April 18, 2007
By Thomas Soderstrom

Installation

Ultra includes the warranty card; LGA775, Socket AM2, and Socket 939/940 support plates; a clear insulator sheet and foam cushioning pad; a miniature installation guide, heatsink compound, and four spring-loaded mounting nuts; Socket AM2, Socket 939/940, and LGA775 cooler adapter brackets; bracket screws, cooler interface cable, and power extension cable.

Simply chose the correct mounting bracket for your motherboard and install it from underneath using the cushioning pad and pierce-resistant clear insulator sheet to prevent short circuits.

After attaching the adapter brackets to the CPU cooler, spread thermal compound evenly over the CPU heat spreader, then drop the cooler over the four mounting pins. Finish the installation by tightening four spring-loaded nuts (two for Socket 939/940 systems), then connect the cables to the interface cable.

Note that the spring nuts above are slotted, but there's no room to insert a screwdriver. In fact, there's very little room on most motherboard to even grab these with fingers, but they must be snuggly tightened.

How tight should these be? We believe Ultra relies on your good judgment, but if you have the strength to tighten them until the spring is fully compressed you should know enough to stop there!
