04/30/2008 AMD Hits a Triple with the Phenom X3
The Phenom X3 triple-core processor is looking to fill the gap between dual and quad-core models, and AMD is hoping that its "three cores for the price of two" sales pitch comes off as well. The new X3 definitely has some positives, such as lower power and thermal envelopes, but also entails risks like demand exceeding the supply of not-quite-ready-for-primetime quad core silicon.

04/01/2008 AMD Launches the Phenom B3 and Brings Back the X4
AMD has finally released their Phenom "50-series", squashing that nasty TLB bug with a new and improved B3 core revision. Add in higher clock speeds, very competitive prices, a return to the easy-to-grasp X4 branding, and surprisingly good overclocking, and AMD at least has a shot against the Intel Core 2.

03/17/2008 Intel Set to Strike Back with the Yorkfield, Wolfdale, X48, and QX9300
After a few hiccups in early-2008, everything seems to be coming together for Intel. The emergence of the 45nm Yorkfield quad core, increased Wolfdale dual core stocks, the debut of the X48 Express chipset, and word of a quad core mobile CPU should help give Intel a very good second quarter.

03/02/2008 AMD and Intel Heat Up the Multi-Core Market
The multi-core landscape has been relatively stable through the early part of 2008, but lately, things are starting to shift into high gear. Intel is finally setting loose its 45nm Wolfdale hordes, while AMD is looking to introduce their tri-core Phenom processors and a new dual Sempron model.

02/29/2008 The Big Bad Wolfdale: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Review
Although Intel announced the 45nm Penryn core in late-2007, the wait for a mainstream-priced dual core Wolfdale was quite a bit longer. The 3.0 GHz Core 2 Duo E8400 was the first out of the blocks, and now we have the 3.16 GHz Core 2 Duo E8500 under the gun, testing out its performance, value and overclocking potential.

01/21/2008 Intel Dual Core on a Budget: the Celeron E1200
With the release of the low-cost Celeron Dual-Core, Intel has officially hammered the final nail into the single-core processor casket. This entry-level model sports a price tag of around $60, and while it may not have the outright speed of a Core 2 Duo, the base architecture is similar.

01/05/2008 Unleash the 45nm Hordes: Intel Looks to Roll over AMD
Just when things start looking up for AMD, and their Phenom 9900 gave the company some positive coverage, we get word that Intel is poised to unleash a veritable horde of new 45nm processors at all levels of the market.

12/24/2007 AMD Phenom 9900 Preview: Mainstream Quad Core at an Attractive Price
AMD's initial foray into the quad core world left the company a bit bruised and battered, but the Phenom 9900 could gain back some respect. This 2.6 GHz part is a nice upgrade compared to the 2.3 GHz Phenom 9600, and AMD's intention of a sub-$350 price suggests an excellent mainstream value for early-2008.
